The week of November 16th ...

This week in Language Arts we will...

  • write so that readers can read our writing
  • stretch out words in writing to strengthen our spelling skills
  • reinforce sight words
  • analyze current stories or correct spacing
  • extend current use of new vocabulary by finding newly acquired words in additional books as well as apply to new writing
  • continue studying characters in literature by showing character's feelings by adapting our voice while reading, using clues from the author to bring characters to live, reread to make our voices smooth to show character's big feelings
  • recognize spelling patterns with our current sort

This week in Math we will...
  • model sums of different numbers focusing on the fact that addends can be in any order
  • reinforce the strategies of adding horizontally and vertically
  • work with making a ten

This week in Social Studies we will...
  • describe how technology has changed our lives
  • learn about the importance of Thanksgiving
  • compare Thanksgiving celebrations both past and present

This week in Science we will...
  • wrap up our unit on weather

Announcements

  1. Science Fair is next week! Preview will take place on Monday. You may start purchasing items beginning Tuesday afternoon. If you are planning on shopping with your child, please try to do it before or after school, or during our recess time.
  2. Can your child tie his/her shoes? Now is the time to really reinforce that at home! Try taking a large shoe and putting it in your child's lap. Sit behind them and model how to do it. Your First Grade teachers thank you!
  3. It's that time of year! LICE! Be on the lookout for itchy heads. It may not be just dry scalps! When weather changes and more hats and scarves are used, transmission can be on the rise. It's best to be cautious! We always recommend to students to
