Week of Oct.28

Red Ribbon Week! – October 28-Novemer 1
Monday – Be Unique and be Drug Free – wear mix match outfits
Tuesday – Teamwork– wear your favorite team jersey
Wednesday – Have Fun and Make good Choices - wacky hair and socks
Thursday – We have Good Character – dress up as your book character
Friday – Hat’s off to being Drug Free – wear a hat

Book Character Day Parade!  Thursday, Oct. 31.  Have your child dress as a favorite character.  First thing in the morning, we’ll all parade around the playground.  Wait for us outside and you’ll see us!  Don’t forget to send the book. We’ll share with the class and get to read them during reading workshop.  (no scary costumes or weapons…)

The Super Science Sale will take place from Monday, December 2 – Friday, December 6, which is the week after Thanksgiving break. The hours are as follows:

Monday: 7: 30 am – 3:30 pm
Tuesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Wednesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Thursday: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
Friday: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm

In Language Arts this week, we will…
·        Write for readers
·        Examine readable and unreadable writing
·        Stretch and write words
·        Focus on reading fluently
·        Pay attention to punctuation
·        Review the size of spaces that we use
·        Sort words to learn word patterns and help our spelling
·        Build our vocabulary with a weekly read-aloud. We will be introduced to 3 new words.  All week, we’ll keep track of when we use them in our writing, speaking, or see them in our reading.  The new words will be posted so that we will have a reference for future use.
·        Read word family poems to reinforce the patterns that many words have
In Math, we will…
·        Create numbers using tens and ones, then order them
·        Measure a pumpkin in many ways
·        Identify words as odd or even
·        Continue to solve our problems of the day.  We use “CUBES” strategies.  (Circle the numbers, Underline key words, Box the question, Ex out extra information, and Show our work)
·        Visit our math stations. Each station will have a math activity that reinforces concepts that we are currently learning or have previously learned. Your child will also be able to visit “First in Math” at some point this week.

In Science, we will discover Earth’s natural resources.
