What a great first week of school!  We have enjoyed getting to know your children and are so excited for an awesome year!

This will be the first week for lunch…  Please make sure your child has money in his/her lunch account if you plan on purchasing.

Here is the encore schedule.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE days.  Fridays will be a rotation that includes PE along with music or art.  (This Friday will only have one class due to the shortened schedule.)

This week in language arts, we will…

·       Launch writing workshop

·       Learn and practice the procedures in our reading workshop

·       Practice sorting words that will get us ready for the spelling program

This week in math, we will…

·       Use cubes to show different ways to write numbers

·       Create a graph based on the number of letters in our name

·       “Math about Me”- a fun activity using math concepts to describe ourselves

We will also continue reading books by Kevin Henkes.  This author’s books focus on friendship and relationships.  What a great way to begin the year.

Week of August 25

First week of first grade!  We are so excited about this week!  We’ll be getting to know each other and going over the routines in first grade. 

We will be having early dismissal at 11:00 so that we can get our reading assessments completed.  This gives us a good picture where your child is in his/her reading so that we can start at just the right place! 

We’ll also be having snack…  One of the best parts of the day!  Please make sure it’s healthy and nut-free.

If your child arrives earlier than 7:45, please send them to the gym.  Thanks so much!
