Week of April 14

Since we are beginning our time unit this week, it’d be great if you practice this with your kiddo.  Emphasize that you look at the short hand first.  Then the long hand represents minutes- which are counted by five.
Can your first grader tie his/her shoes?  If not, NOW is the time to teach your little one!!!  Thank you from your first grade teachers!
We are looking forward to our field trip to the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History- next Tuesday the 22nd.  Kiddos will need a sack lunch for that day.
Our Encore schedule so that your kiddo remembers tennis shoes-VERY important

In Language Arts this week, we will…
·        Continue writing poetry
·        Reflect about our favorite parts of stories
·        Build our vocabulary with a weekly read-aloud.
·        Visiting computer lab to work on computer program “Imagination Station”, a differentiated program that reinforces reading skills

In Math, we will…
·        Begin our time unit.  We focus on time to the hour and half hour.
·        Create timelines of our days
·        Continue to solve our problems of the day.  We use “CUBES” strategies.  (Circle the numbers, Underline key words, Box the question, Ex out extra information, and Show our work)
·        Visit our math stations. Each station will have a math activity that reinforces concepts that we are currently learning or have previously learned. Your child will also be able to visit “First in Math” at some point this week.

In Social Studies, we’ll learn about legends and how they reflect customs.
