Week of March 3rd

Family Math night is this Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00.  Come play with your child!  Math games, of course!
Dragon Day is this Friday.  We will be having different schedules.  If you need to know about lunch times, etc, contact your child’s teacher.

In Language Arts this week, we will…
·        Use graphic organizers while writing small moments
·        Determine the author’s purpose
·        Learn about hard and soft g
·        Explore the dictionary
·        Sort words to learn word patterns and help our spelling
·        Build our vocabulary with a weekly read-aloud.
·        Practice placing correct capitalization and punctuation in paragraphs
·        Visiting computer lab to work on computer program “Imagination Station”, a differentiated program that reinforces reading skills


In Math, we will…
·        Subtract using a number line
·        Solve subtraction word problems
·        Continue to solve our problems of the day.  We use “CUBES” strategies.  (Circle the numbers, Underline key words, Box the question, Ex out extra information, and Show our work)
·        Visit our math stations. Each station will have a math activity that reinforces concepts that we are currently learning or have previously learned. Your child will also be able to visit “First in Math” at some point this week.

In Social Studies, we’ll be learning US and Texas symbols.

Week of Feb. 24th


The Six Flags Reading Program allows students who log 6 hours of recreational reading to receive a free Six Flags ticket that is good for summer admission to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.  The reading logs are due back to homeroom teachers on Thursday, February 27, 2014.  To learn more about the program or get an extra copy of the reading log, visit:

Our field trip this week! We’ll be going to the Will Rogers Auditorium for “Aesop’s Fables.”  It’s Tuesday the 25th.  Kids will need to bring lunch (with a drink) to school, as we’ll be eating an early lunch in the classroom before we leave.

Book Fair this week!!! Shopping will start Tuesday and go through Friday at 1:00 pm.  It will stay open after school on Thursday until 5:30.
