Week of October 17^th

Picture orders are due by Monday, Oct 24.  Retakes are Wed., Oct 26 only by parent request.  Please write RETAKE on the proof and return by Oct 24.  Thank you!

Looking ahead…  Storybook Character Day is Monday, October 31^st.  Your child will need a book that goes along with his/her costume. No scary costumes or weapons, please. Make sure you have read the book to/with your child.  We will have a parade that you are invited to attend. (first thing in the morning) Then we’ll come back to the class and have presentations.  The children will introduce themselves, tell what they are dressed as, and share their favorite part of their book

 Please don’t forget to have your child turn in his/her spelling homework every Friday.  2 written assignments are due: the written sort AND the word hunt.  Thank you so much for helping your child practice responsibility!

This week…

In Math, we will:

·        Write numbers in different ways

·        Create sets of tens and ones to represent whole numbers

·        Use lots of measurement skills for our Pumpkin Day.  We will predict and then weigh, measure the circumference, count the stripes (ribs), count the seeds.  Fun!

In Language Arts, we will:

·        Revise, edit, and celebrate our favorite small moment story in Writer’s Workshop

·        Look for characters, their feelings, and what they do

·        Continue to use different strategies to stay focused while reading.

·        Sort words according to their spelling pattern

·        Read word family poems and discuss the rhyming words

Science- We are continuing our plant unit!
