The Week of May 2nd

This week in language arts, we will…

·      Celebrate our poetry unit
·      Write small moments and revise
·      Recognize different types of media (books, magazines, newspapers, etc.)
·      Discover new vocabulary through a weekly read aloud
·      Categorize words to learn spelling patterns
·      Practice using proper capitalization and punctuation on existing writing.
·      Work on IStation 

This week in math, we will…

·      Learn about the responsibilities attached to money such as saving and spending on the things we need
·      Solve problems of the day independently, then as a class
·      Participate in our math stations
·      Work on Reflex Math and Think Central while in computer lab

This week in Science, we will...

·      Continue our unit on Magnets

Additional Announcements
First Grade will continue to have Star Lab during our Science Lab time on Friday. Please make sure your child has socks for that day.

1.    The Art to Remember deadline has been extended! Parents can still order items online using your child’s code that was written on the envelope. If you no longer have the envelope/code or have any additional questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Bunch at Gayle.Bunch@southlakecarroll.edu


2.    Tonight is OUES night at the varsity Dragon baseball game. Not only will our amazing 4th grade choir be performing, but our very own first grader, Cole Walker, will be throwing out the first pitch. Not only that, but 4th grader Kang To will be the official Bat Boy! Come show some Dragon love tonight! PLAY BALL!

  • Continue our study on Adverbs
  • Discover new vocabulary through a weekly read aloud
  • Categorize words to learn spelling patterns
  • Practice using proper capitalization and punctuation in existing writing
  • Work on iStation in the Computer Lab

  • Begin our study on measurement
  • Solve problems of the day independently, then as a class
  • Participate in math stations
  • Work on Reflex Math and Think Central in the computer lab

This week in Science, we will...
  • Continue our study on energy focusing specifically on heat, light, and sound

Additional Announcements

     Don’t forget to return our Field Trip Waiver from as well as the chaperone slip (if you are interested in being entered into the chaperone lottery) by next Tuesday, April 5th. Also, please be sure to include cash or a check payable to OUES. The amount per child is $7.50. I received some forms today that did not have the money included.
