Week of Dec. 2
We are looking forward to our field trip to Carroll Middle School for the production of “Junie B: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.”  It will be this Thursday.

This week…Christmas is for Children Food Drive!  Please send boxes of pancake mix and plastic bottles of syrup.  Our school goal is 500 items!  If we reach our goal, there will be a silly stunt performed by Mr. Fike and the rest of the Old Union staff!

Check out the Super Science Sale!!!  The hours are as follows:

Monday: 7: 30 am – 3:30 pm
Tuesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Wednesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Thursday: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
Friday: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm

Students who wish to purchase an animal (only beta fish were available last year, but there may be a larger variety this year) MUST bring the signed permission slip to Mrs. Karas before they can buy.

In Language Arts this week, we will…
·        Write focused narratives
·        Use reading strategies
·        Visualize while reading
·        Use the word wall
·        Sort words to learn word patterns and help our spelling
·        Build our vocabulary with a weekly read-aloud. We will be introduced to 3 new words.  All week, we’ll keep track of when we use them in our writing, speaking, or see them in our reading.  The new words will be posted so that we will have a reference for future use.
·        Read word family poems to reinforce the patterns that many words have
In Math, we will…
·        Create shapely Santas, trees of triangles and Hannukah menorahs out of geometric shapes
·        Exchange coins
·        Count by 5s
·        Continue to solve our problems of the day.  We use “CUBES” strategies.  (Circle the numbers, Underline key words, Box the question, Ex out extra information, and Show our work)
·        Visit our math stations. Each station will have a math activity that reinforces concepts that we are currently learning or have previously learned. Your child will also be able to visit “First in Math” at some point this week.

In Science, we will observe changes in the moon.

Don’t forget to return the permission slip for “Junie B. Jones: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells”.  There is no cost to the students.  Thank you to PTO for providing transportation!

The Super Science Sale will take place from Monday, December 2 – Friday, December 6, which is the week after Thanksgiving break. The hours are as follows:

Monday: 7: 30 am – 3:30 pm
Tuesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Wednesday: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
Thursday: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
Friday: 7:30 am – 2:00 pm

·        Use clues to solve logic problems
·        Create a Thanksgiving “glyph”- a graphic representation of unique characteristics that we have
·        Continue to solve our problems of the day.  We use “CUBES” strategies.  (Circle the numbers, Underline key words, Box the question, Ex out extra information, and Show our work)
·        Visit our math stations. Each station will have a math activity that reinforces concepts that we are currently learning or have previously learned. Your child will also be able to visit “First in Math” at some point this week.

In Social Studies, we will learn about the first Thanksgiving.
