We enjoyed a performance of Dawson Middle School’s Wind Ensemble Friday.  It was awesome!

Report Cards went home Friday.  Please sign the colored signature page.  Keep the report card.  Return the envelope on Monday.  Thank you!

Jack and the Beanstalk

January 31 – 6:00 pm &

February 1 – 8:30 am

First Grade students are currently preparing to perform – Jack and the Beanstalk. Please mark your calendars for this wonderful event. All First grade students will perform songs and create an artwork (in art class) that will be included on a souvenir program. Additionally, each student will be assigned a special role – playing instruments, narrating or acting.

Performance attire is jeans and a plain green shirt, any shade.

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

Volunteers are needed for the following projects:

• Create a “castle” (we have a pre-made wooden structure)

• Create a “beanstalk”

• Create a ”Jack and the Beanstalk” for the stage wall

• Create or re-vamp a house (we have a pre-made structure)

• Create or Gather Costume Items for Harp, Old Man, Giant, Giant’s Wife, Mother, Jack

First Grade Musical

In Language Arts this week, we will…

·       Continue to write as if we are teaching about something

·       Make connections while reading

·       Explore the dictionary and learn how to use it

·       Practice high frequency words during spelling

·       Practice writing sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation

·       Read word family poems to reinforce the patterns that many words have

In Math, we will…

·       Draw shapes and make into fractions

·       Begin our addition unit

·       Write addition sentences

·       Model addition sentences with counters

·       Find sums by adding zero

·       Problem solve using SSM, SWA, and BSD plans

·      Participate in our math stations! 

In Social Studies we will be creating timelines and family trees!
