Parent Conferences
Feb. 6- Thomas and Graviett

Star Lab during science lab time- Tuesday!  Make sure your child wears socks.
Jump Rope for Heart
Dates: Feb 11th and 12th during the regular PE period, 2 classes at a time
Parents are invited to participate in the jumping activities, and you are able to watch the students demonstrate their skills.
Envelopes are due by Feb 12th. No worries if it does not come in until that Friday. Everything is voluntary, but all of the students will participate in our special day, whether or not they turn in donations.

Jack and the Beanstalk
January 31 – 6:00 pm &
February 1 – 8:30 am

First Grade students are currently preparing to perform – Jack and the Beanstalk. Please mark your calendars for this wonderful event. All First grade students will perform songs and create an artwork (in art class) that will be included on a souvenir program. Additionally, each student will be assigned a special role – playing instruments, narrating or acting.
Performance attire is jeans and a plain green shirt, any shade.
VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
Volunteers are needed for the following projects:
• Create a “castle” (we have a pre-made wooden structure)
• Create a “beanstalk”
• Create a ”Jack and the Beanstalk” for the stage wall
• Create or re-vamp a house (we have a pre-made structure)
• Create or Gather Costume Items for Harp, Old Man, Giant, Giant’s Wife,
Mother, Jack

First Grade Musical

In Language Arts this week, we will…
·       Continue to write as if we are teaching about something
·       Continue to make connections while reading
·       learn about adjectives
·       continue word sorts
- read poetry to build fluency
·       Practice writing sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation
·       Read word family poems to reinforce the patterns that many words have
In Math, we will…
·       Write number sentences showing patterns in addition
·       practice skip counting
·       Problem solve using SSM, SWA, and BSD plans
·      Participate in our math stations! 
In Social Studies we will be researching historical figures with our biography unit!

·       Practice writing sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation
·       Read word family poems to reinforce the patterns that many words have
In Math, we will…
·       Add across and down
·       Find sums by counting on
·       Problem solve using SSM, SWA, and BSD plans
·      Participate in our math stations! 
In Science we will be learning about how baby animals resemble their parents.  We will also learn about life cycles.

We enjoyed a performance of Dawson Middle School’s Wind Ensemble Friday.  It was awesome!
Report Cards went home Friday.  Please sign the colored signature page.  Keep the report card.  Return the envelope on Monday.  Thank you!
