Week of Oct. 8
· Mrs. Karas could use some help with the Science Lab! If you’re interested, she’s placed a tub outside of her door labeled “Science Lab Volunteers.” Volunteers are welcome to grab a job or two from the bucket. ANY help would be appreciated!
· On October 31st, Old Union will have Storybook Character Parade. Children may come dressed as a character from a favorite book. Please make sure your child brings the book as well. No guns, swords or other scary stuff please… We will get to enjoy reading our books during readers’ workshop. Parents are invited to the parade. It will take place first thing in the morning outside by the playground. If you’d like to send a change of clothes for your child, that will be fine.
· Report cards went home this Friday! Make sure you return the envelope along with the colored signature page. Keep the report card.
In Language Arts this week, we will…
· Sketch rather than draw so we’ll have plenty time to write
· Get our minds ready to read- look at title and pictures
· Say detailed stories aloud before we write them
· Tell a story across our fingers to help have a beginning, middle and end.
· Predict
· Learn about “not giving away the fish.”
· Sort words according to their spelling patterns
In Math, we will…
· Make tally charts
· Collect and sort data to make real object graphs
· Make groups of tens and ones
· Problem solve using SSM, SWA, and BSD plans
In Science we will be conducting investigations about matter!
