Week of Oct. 1

·       Report cards go home this Friday!  Make sure you return the envelope along with the colored signature page.  Keep the report card.

·       No School Oct. 8- It’s a teacher work day.  Enjoy!

·       Dragon Day is this Friday.  On this day, kids will have different encore, lunch and recess times.  This is due to the fact that teachers are going to subject-specific meetings during encore.  (professional learning communities) This will not be the best time to come have lunch with your child due to the fact that the times have changed.  Thanks for understanding!

In Language Arts this week, we will…

·       Begin to write “small moments”

·       Use our schema while reading

·       Skip it and go on (strategy)

·       Go back and read it again (strategy)

·       Sort words that begin with c,f,d

·       Find little words in big words

In Math, we will…

·       Use problem solving to solve logic problems

·       Collect and sort data

·       Continue to graph

·       Problem solve using SSM, SWA, and BSD plans

·       Conduct surveys

In Science we will be learning about the five senses.

Week of Sept. 24

Some reminders...

·       Book Fair-this week!  Your child will preview Monday and bring home a "wish list". You may send in money with your child, or you can come during recess time to shop with your child. Meet us at lunch or on the playground...  (11:40-12:10)

·       Send a healthy snack (no nuts) with your child.

·       You may send a water bottle. (no spill is best)

·       Wear tennis shoes on PE days.

·       Send in headphones (in labeled bag) for computer lab use.

-"First in Math" is going strong!  Thank you for letting your child build his/her math skills while having fun!  Look for the login and password on the inside of the green binder.

·    Please email Mary Dominguez at Mary.Dominguez@southlakecarroll.edu if your child will be absent.  This will help eliminate the need for her to call you.  Thank you!!!

In Language Arts this week, we will…

·       choose a story to "fix up" for publication

·       Write about our daily lives

·  practice writing sentences using capitals at the beginning

·       read independently without interrupting guided reading groups

·       Sort words that begin with p,t,m

·       think about what we need to do our best reading

·       use the strategy "does it make sense?"

In Math, we will…

·       make a closed shape out of yarn and find the area in cubes

·       graph our pets

·       continue with our problem of the day

·       make original picture graphs

In Science we will…

·    learn about safety rules

·    examine our lunches and see what can be recycled or reused

·       Count by 2’s as we draw and count the number of feet in our family

In Social Studies we will…

·       Learn about Constitution Day

·       Locate places on a map using cardinal directions

·       Learn about our city, state, country, continent and how they relate to each other in size

Week of Sept. 10

We are asking all students to bring a pair of headphones to class for personal use in the computer lab.  Please put them in a ziplock bag labeled with name. Thank you!

In Math, we will be:

·        Matching number words and numerals

·        Problem solving

·        Comparing numbers

In Language Arts, we will be:

·        focusing on matching letters to sounds while writing in Writers’ Workshop

·        choosing “just right” books and staying focused during independent reading time

·        continuing to rhyme with three different sorts (eep, ake, ape) If you can practice brainstorming words that have these rhymes, that’d be great!  Rhyming is a big part of reading and spelling development.

Social Studies- We will be learning about authority figures and goods and services.
