Week of April 30^th

Three Piggy Opera

Great job, first grade!

This week…

In Math, we will:

· Begin our time unit

· Tell time to the hour and half hour

· Tell time on both analog and digital clocks

· Order events according to duration

· Solve logic problems in different ways

· enjoy our “BUILD” math stations. These stations help to extend and review the concepts the children have been learning all year.

In Language Arts, we will:

· gather ideas for effective endings

· write new pieces, revising as we go

· work with our writing partners

· discover purposes of media: books, newspapers, magazines, etc.

· practice using the correct punctuation with different kinds of sentences

· read word family poems and discuss the rhyming words

· read poetry to build fluency

Science - We will begin our weather unit…

Week of April 23^rd

Day of Drumming! What fun!

The First Grade students are excited to present the 3 Piggy Opera. Please mark your calendars for this wonderful event. The performance will include songs, instruments, acting and narration. If your child is unable to attend, please let Mrs. McArthur know.

Performance Attire

Everyone, except the actors, should wear nice clothes for the performance, something you might wear on school picture day. Consider wearing shoes that are comfortable and that attach all the way around the foot.

Arrival Time

Please arrive at 5:45 and report to the gym to line up for the performance.

· reread, assess, and make plans for revising

· revise the leads in stories

· reflect and interpret important information in stories
