Week of November 28th

Thursday, December 1^st, we will be taking photos of the children.  If you’d like to have them dress in holiday colors or a special outfit- that’d be great!

Starlab will be for the next 2 weeks!  Please make sure your child wears SOCKS on the day he/she goes to science.  What’s Starlab?  A really cool inflatable “planetarium” that the kids get to crawl into and learn about space…  Fun!

This week…

In Math, we will:

·        create “Shapely Santas” using geometrical figures.

·        create triangle trees.

·        review geometry concepts.

·        have a 3-D scavenger hunt!

·        continue to problem-solve daily with our “Problem of the Day”

·       enjoy our “BUILD” math stations… The children have been reinforcing their concepts of odd/even, skip counting, area, number order and more! 

In Language Arts, we will:

·        predict while we read.

·        revise words and pictures to be sure they are more detailed.

·        notice what we’re thinking while we read.

·        write to teach others how to do something.

·        sort words according to their spelling pattern

·        read word family poems and discuss the rhyming words

·        work with verbs.

Social Studies- We will be learning about holidays around the world!

Week of November 14^th  

This week…

In Math, we will:

·        work with two and three dimensional figures.

·        combine 2D figures to make new figures.

·        identify math in everyday situations.

·        continue to problem-solve daily with our “Problem of the Day”

·       enjoy our “BUILD” math stations…

In Language Arts, we will:

·        make revisions with writing partners.

·        “fix up” a story to publish.

·        celebrate writing!

·        pay attention to our feelings while we read.

·        predict while we read.

·        reread when we get confused.

·        sort words according to their spelling pattern

·        read word family poems and discuss the rhyming words

·        work with nouns.

Social Studies- We will be learning about the first Thanksgiving!

This is the last week to buy yearbooks!  Friday is the last day... 

Please attend if possible...  PTO Meeting on Wednesday, November 9^th at 9:15 in the OUES Library.  Dr. Faltys will be speaking about balancing the budget, as well as our current deficit.  

Week of November 7^th

The Veterans’ Day program is this Friday at 8:30am.  You’re welcome to attend this special event in the cafeteria!

This week…

In Math, we will:

·        continue to work with tally marks.

·        find patterns in odd and even numbers.

·        begin our geometry unit.

·        continue to problem-solve daily with our “Problem of the Day”

·       enjoy our “BUILD” math stations… After our main math lesson, children participate in group math stations that reinforce concepts previously taught. 

In Language Arts, we will:

·        work with partners to peer-edit.

·        work on using periods when needed.

·        continue retelling stories using characters’ names, setting, events, details, and an ending.

·        sort words according to their spelling pattern

·        read word family poems and discuss the rhyming words

·        learn about contractions.

Science- We will begin our land and water unit. The children will identify and describe physical characteristics of landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources.
