Week of August 29th
First full week of school!  Yippee!  Thanks so much for bringing your children in for literacy assessments!  We are so excited to start our full days!  Did you ask your child about the dance this past Friday?  We all joined out in the halls and did our “flash mob” dance to the song “Dynamite.”  Talk about FUN!!!  More of that to come this year!  J
This week, we will be working on number concepts in math with several activities.  We will be graphing the number of pockets everyone wears each day.  It might be fun to dress your kiddos in as many pockets as possible!
In Language Arts, we will be:
·        launching our reading and writing workshops!  We will be focusing on the routines that are involved.
·        enjoying several books by the author Kevin Henkes and completing different activities that relate to these fun stories about friendship…
·        beginning our working with words (spelling) routine. The first six weeks, we have all the same words or pictures.
Some reminders:
·       Return any forms that haven’t been returned…
·       Send a healthy snack (no nuts) with your child.
·       You may send a water bottle. (no spill is best)
·       Wear tennis shoes on PE days.
·       Send lunch or check account for money…

Here are some tips to keep you on top of things... :-)
1. Check binders each night, initial behavior chart and return the next day.
2. Make sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE days.
3. Read each night with your child and sign the reading form.
4. B-day treats are enjoyed at recess (11:45) and may be dropped off in the front office or parents may join us with the treats at that time on the playground.
5. Send in a healthy snack each day. Water bottles are welcome. (No-spill is best.)
6. Starting 2nd six weeks, spelling homework is due on Fridays.
